Local School Council

What is an LSC?

Chicago Public Schools have Local School Councils (LSC) which are responsible for three main duties:
  1. Approving how school funds and resources are allocated
  2. Developing and monitoring the annual School Improvement Plan, aka the Continuous Improvement Work Plan (“CIWP”)
  3. Evaluating and selecting the school's principal

LSC Composition

An LSC typically includes:

  • 6 Parents
  • 2 Community Members
  • 2 Teachers
  • 1 Non-teaching staff member
  • The Principal
  • 1 Student representative (for high schools)

How are members selected?

LSC members are elected by parents and community residents in an election held every two years. Teacher representatives and the non-teaching staff representative are appointed by the Board, following a preference poll of all full-time staff. The school principal is automatically a member of the LSC.

The Office of Local School Council Relations of Chicago Public Schools oversees and facilitates the operation of each Local School Council. For more information on Local School Councils, please visit The Office of Local School Council Relations website here.

Current LSC Representatives

Chicago Public Schools have Local School Councils (LSCs) to help with the operation of the school. The primary responsibilities of LSCs include approving how funds and resources are allocated, developing and monitoring the annual school improvement plan, and evaluating and monitoring the school's principal.

Looking to Help

Put Together a Fundraiser?

The EPE family is always in support of those looking to help provide more resources for our students. The best way to do that is to help raise support financially so we can be fiscally responsible. If you have a proposal, please download the documents to present how you would love to support our school community.

Meeting Dates for 2025/6 School Year

Time: First Tuesday of Every Month @ 6pm.

Location: Multi-Purpose Room (access through door 4)

Public Participation Rules

Anyone may speak to an item on the agenda or bring forth an issue, during the Public Participation portion of the agenda by signing up prior to the meeting using this Google form while there are virtual meetings. The public has the option to submit a written statement that would be read aloud by the LSC or they can speak themselves. When meetings will be in person, there will be a sign-up sheet to speak that must be completed prior to the start of the meeting.

Speakers are asked to limit their opening comments to 2 minutes, if possible, and be prepared to answer questions about their comments.

The comments, questions, and concerns brought up during public participation will be heard by the LSC members, and those items that may need to be addressed will be considered for future LSC meetings or be addressed by the Principal outside of the actual meeting.
