EPE Foundation Update – Feb 2017

Dear Edison Park Elementary Families and Community:
This year marks the 9th anniversary of the opening of Edison Park Elementary School. This spring, our first kindergarten class graduates 8th grade and moves on to high school. We have come such a long way. From our humble beginnings of barely full classes in the middle and upper grades, to full two and sometimes three classrooms of students in each grade. We saw the landscape change to include a beautiful garden and a large addition to accommodate our ever growing population. Our children learn and stretch and grow at Edison Park Elementary.
So much has changed in the past 9 years, but unfortunately, one thing has remained painfully the same. Our school is woefully underfunded. Because of the socio-economic status of our community, Edison Park School receives very little additional state or federal monies that many schools receive. In addition to that, we have been hit with multiple budget cuts year after year; the latest just in the last few weeks. Edison Park operates on a bare bones budget, and though not fair, it is up to us to fundraise to help provide our students with the staff, materials and technology they deserve.
This year, representatives from the Moms and Dads Clubs of Edison Park Elementary are resurrecting our Spring Fundraiser. Save the date, May 13, 2017 for Edison Park Elementary’s Spring Fundraiser – Parent Prom | Forever Young! Couples or stag guests welcome; vintage prom attire encouraged! We will have a silent auction including classroom baskets, teacher outings and much more!
Our goal is to raise $50,000 (or more!) for the children of Edison Park. Monies raised will go to the Edison Park Elementary Foundation who will work with the administration to determine the most dire needs for the funds, beginning with staff and schoolwide needs/programs, then technology, then supplementary classroom materials. Donate raffle items for the silent auction
Donate materials to your classroom basket. More information to follow.
Spread the word and encourage others to participate! The more people who attend, the more money we raise for our children!
