No Place For Hate

Combating Prejudice and Creating Effective Tools to Address It

In December 2022, all of EPE’s middle schoolers were introduced to a group we have been working with since the summer called No Place for Hate. NPFH provides schools with a program that is “designed to combat prejudice and create effective tools to address these issues in the classroom and community.

No Place for Hate is a student-led effort. Student voice is a crucial part of the success of this program. Rather than it being something that is pushed by adults, it is formulated by students collaborating with one another to roll out activities for others to do throughout the year and in the future. Members of our Student Voice Committee and others have taken this on and I could not be more excited.

During the assembly this morning, we had a speaker come from NPFH to explain the program to our students, and then students leading the meeting introduced the NPFH pledge which all the students signed. Here is an example of one for elementary students (K-5th grade) and middle school students (6th-8th grade).

The next steps include involving younger grades in the process and planning for whole school and/or grade-level activities students will participate in around these topics. You will be hearing more about this in the early months of 2023.
