Dress Code Policy
Edison Park Elementary recognizes students’ right to choose their own style of dress and personal appearance, provided it is age-appropriate and does not negatively impact the learning environment.
Regarding clothing:
- Clothing may not be revealing
- Clothing may not state, imply, or depict hate speech/imagery targeting groups based on race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity, religious affiliation, or any other protected classification.
- Religious dress and garments will be respected.
- Students should be dressed in a manner that is conducive to and appropriate for a scholastic environment.
- Students shall have the right to dress in accordance with their gender identity, within the constraints of the dress codes adopted by the school.
- Students should not wear backless shoes like flip flops to school due to safety reasons and the need for sneakers for PE.
The school administration will make the final judgment if a student’s clothing does not fall within the guidelines of the dress code.
If a student is uncertain of their clothing choice, please bring additional clothing so as to not lose class time.
Dress Code violations may result in a change of clothing. Repeated violations will result in a parent conference with the administration and disciplinary action that is in line with the CPS Student Code of Conduct.
The LSC will review the dress code annually.
