Public Curriculum and Goal for Student Learning
As many of you may know, our school vision is EPE is a positive, purposeful, productive community for all, and, over the last few years, we have done a lot of work around our three school priorities shown in the image below: 1) K – 8 aligned curriculum, 2) Student support (both academically and behaviorally), and 3) Grading practices. You will notice that our WOLF expectations encompass all of our priorities as a school which is, ultimately, doing what is best for our students. The students are purposely located in the center of our priorities as a reminder that they are the reason we do what we do.
I am excited to share with you a bit more about where we are headed as a school. There are many facets to this but we have tried to do our best to make it parent-friendly so you all have a better idea of what is going on with your child while at school and the direction EPE is going.
Public Curriculum:
Up to this point, you have had to depend on seeing the work your child brings home and email updates from the teachers to know what is going on in your child’s classroom. This changes now! If you click on the image below, it will bring you to our PUBLIC CURRICULUM page. You are able to see what will be covered the entire school year for all grades and all subjects. It also includes access to additional resources to support your child outside of school. Some are still a work in progress but we hope to have all of them completed in the near future.
EPE’s Goal for Student Learning:
Clicking on the image below will bring you to an interactive model where you can learn about all of the things we have done over the past 5 years and where we are heading in the figure. Click on any box and you can get a better description of how it is positively impacting your children’s education. Ultimately, we heading toward more STUDENT OWNERSHIP OF LEARNING which means that there will be an emphasis on creating classroom activities that will challenge your children differently and forcing them to think in a way that they have not done in the past.
Let Student Lead:
Many of you may have seen our staff wearing our EPE shirt for this year that had the image below on it. We are truly focused on LETTING STUDENT LEAD in the building. This means more STUDENT VOICE which leads to our students having more ownership of all aspects of the school. Providing an opportunity for students to speak out and be heard is a true sign of a successful school.
